One Miami Heat player got lost in all the hoopla surrounding the hoops news over the past summer. Just a couple of years ago, he was the hope for the team’s future. But that dream was extinguished faster than the joints he so liked smoking during his time in Miami. We’re talking about Michael Beasley, the Heat’s first pick, and second overall, in the 2008 NBA draft. Beasley never fulfilled his potential in Miami (his new general manager says it was because he smoked too much dope while in South Beach) and the team was forced to dump him and his salary to clear space for the Three Amigos (are you as tired of these silly monikers as we are?) during the off season.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Miami fans jeer Beasley when he returns to the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) on Tuesday after being banished to the wasteland of the basketball universe otherwise known as the Minnesota Timberwolves. Or if they show empathy for a talented, if unproven, player who lost his shot at being part of basketball immortality when he was shipped out of Miami. We’re betting on the former. Tickets for the Heat’s second home game start at $16.10 in the nosebleed section. Visit ticketmaster.com.
