Girls’ Club’s latest exhibit, “The Moment. The Backdrop. The Persona.,” is “an examination of the uses of narrative in contemporary art by women,” according to the news release. The exhibit, drawn from Francie Bishop Good and David Horvitz’s collection, is a tour de force by more than 30 artists traversing the social mores affecting women. Multidisciplinary works in drawing, painting, video, and new media are representative of the more narrative works in the collection fueled by a sense of storytelling. While individual artists have executed differently, there’s an underlying unity to the works shown as an invitation to the viewer to “experience a singular isolated moment, an evocative backdrop, or a deeply imagined character, sometimes a combination of two or more.” These themes and more will be explored during the Art Basel Miami Beach Artist + Curator Brunch.
Art Basel Miami Beach VIPs, guests, and the public are welcome to join the curators, artists, and numerous collaborators of the exhibit for an informal brunch catered by Colada Cuban Coffee House & Eatery from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday while enjoying gallery tours throughout the morning. Girls’ Club is located at 117 NE Second St., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-828-9151, or visit girlsclubcollection.org.
