Cats Would Never Go for This

If given the chance to dress themselves (assuming opposable thumbs are no longer an issue), would your canine companion choose cowboy fringe, superhero chic, naughty nurse, or rugged pirate? Trick question: The answer is most always none of the above, which is why to fulfill man’s great desire to see his supposed “best friend” all dolled up in costumery, man sweetens the deal with treats, water bowls, and playtime with other pups to keep them from running for the doggy door in embarrassment. Case in point: Sunday’s Pet Puparazzi Red Carpet Gala at Barkers Pet Resort (761 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale). In honor of the Get a Life Pet Rescue’s two grand dame dachshunds, 19-year-old Mama Weenie and 17-year-old Pixie, a birthday bash is being held, complete with celebrity look-alike costumes, a red carpet rollout, raffles, Chinese auctions, and “Puparazzi” photo shoots. In exchange, pooch participants get a pool party, treats, an indoor playroom, and funds from the day’s event to benefit rescue efforts for abused and neglected dogs. Festivities begin at 2 p.m. Call 954-888-2224, or visit getalifepetrescue.com.
