Life in an Airstream is already a bit confining and awkward, so when you add a scandal the size of the one kicking off Sordid Lives, it’s safe to say that extra breathing room is at a minimum. See Peggy, the queen of white trash, has gone to that great aerosol recycling bin in the sky and the circumstances surrounding her demise are as seedy as they are fabulous (it was a freak accident involving adultery, wooden legs, and poor balance.) Her family is left with the uncomfortable task of throwing a wake for the former female philanderer.

For any other clan, this alone would be an endeavor larger than a Super Wal-Mart shopping cart; since Peggy’s genetic relations are dealing with a myriad of other issues, from cross-dressing to bed hopping, its safe to say they’ve mastered the art of malcontent multitasking. The film, which was originally performed as a play and is now being made into a television series, has become a cult classic in the indie cinema circuit as well as in the GLTB community. Cinema Paradiso (503 SE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale) is exhuming this quirky, black comedy, dusting it off, and presenting it this evening at 8:15 p.m. Tickets cost $5 to $8.
