Betty Godfrey, author of On the Winds of Destiny, met her husband while vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, and something clicked. They began a long-distance relationship, with Betty continuing to reside in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, while Bob dwelt on his 65-foot ship, Destiny, in Fort Lauderdale. When Bob became ill, Betty moved here from New Jersey. "He told me his dream was to sail around the world," she said.
Betty wasn't fond of the sea, but Bob asked her to promise if his health improved that they would make the trip together. When Bob made a full recovery from a serious heart infection, he held Betty to her word. The couple set sail on Destiny in 1987. This was no three-hour tour; try three years, traveling 42,000 miles at sea, surviving hurricanes, a mudslide, seasickness, and at times a hostile crew. "We were on a prison island near Tonga, where the men hadn't seen a woman in three years," Betty said. "We dove with sea snakes and sharks, whether we wanted to or not."

Take It Outside
>A mock and a hard place
In the newly released movie A Mighty Wind, actor and director Christopher Guest chronicles the reunion of a group of washed-up 1960s folk singers. But in typical Guest fashion, he creates a cast of utterly lovable but slightly flawed characters who are always ridiculously entertaining. The Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art, in conjunction with the "Off the Wall" film series, presents Cine al Fresco, a five-week series of "mockumentaries." The series features mock docs such as Fear of a Black Hat and the mother of all mockumentaries, This Is Spinal Tap. Tuesday's film is Waiting for Guffman, another Guest-directed satire, about an amateur play in a small town.
