The organization has become a big dog in South Floridas pet rescue community since receiving its non-profit status in 2005. By focusing on a niche market abandoned dogs weighing less than twenty pounds its been able to alter public mindset about adoptable pups. People really think that they cant get a small breed from a rescue, said volunteer Sharon Athanasiou, but were trying to educate people. Many of the fostered pooches were subjects of neglect, abuse, or castaways from puppy mills; Get A Life pays for their medical bills and gives them temporary lodging while searching for permanent human sidekicks. Yes, Yorkies can be homeless too.
Helping out is easy just fluff your pooch and hit the club at 5711 Seminole Way in Hollywood. This evenings party features raffles, a silent auction, and a whole lotta cute. Swanky fashion show prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place (theres a piddly $10 entry fee per pet), and your $25 door cover gets you two free cocktails. Now hustle, youve still got to steam clean Fifis favorite evening gown. Call 954-629-2445, or visit getalifepetrescue.com for more information.
