London’s dubstep movement has spread like a summer heat wave across the globe in recent months, moving out of East End garages and into sweaty dance clubs stateside. Here in South Florida, dubstep and grime’s shuffling bottomed out sound jibes well with our own dance phenomenon, Miami bass. And local collective Digital Felon is bringing that mix to a boil. Digital: Insight, the group’s monthly, Monday night dance party, spins up tonight at 10 at Original Fat Cats (320 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Expect a showcase of bass-heavy two-step from DJs George Young, John “Somejerk” Gregory, 3 Eyes, UK Mantra, and a bevy of other Felons, plus Fat Cat’s array of great craft beers. Digital Felon will also pilfer beats every first Saturday of the month at Maracas Mexican Bar & Grill as part of their Takeover night (at 3001 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale). This week: the Substitutes, a drum and bass trio out of MIA.

Both events are free, with drink specials running through the night. Visit digitalfelon.com.
First Monday of every month, 10 p.m. Starts: Aug. 3. Continues through Jan. 4, 2009
