New Moon isn't necessarily the best gallery space in SoFla or even on Wilton Drive. It's a lesbian bar, first of all, which means it's kinda dark and kinda loud. Also -- well, it's a lesbian bar, and lesbian bars just aren't known for their dazzling aesthetics. But New Moon is probably the friendliest bar on the drive. Real unpretentious, real laid-back. And the art on display here is good, folky fair -- the found mise en scène photography of Ginger de Vegh, the subtly off-kilter acrylics and drawings of Marcy Miller, and the primal doodles of nationally renowned voice actor and musician Paul Bellantoni. All of these guys are locals, at least part-time, and you can get soused while admiring their artwork till 9 p.m. or so. Then, the bar returns to its ordinary Thursday-night schedule, and it's karaoke with Don. New Moon's at 2440 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors, and admission's always free. The booze and art cost money.
