Oh, Thanksgiving morning. The calm before the storm. The quiet rise of turkey smells, or is that your 12-year-old cousin who hasn't learned about deodorant yet? Thanksgiving is a mess of family coming together to give thanks and food coming together to be awesome. Before the stuffing hits the oven, how about using this year's Turkey Day to inject some good back into your community?
If your family is anything like mine, then you are kicked out of the house during the major cooking process. Turn this displacement into a worthy activity by rounding up the family fragments and wobbling on over to the Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot & Paddle. Taking place early Thanksgiving Day, this 5K is sure to start your day off with a burst of smiles and shed the guilt you normally feel after dousing an entire plate in gravy goodness. The funds raised will go to help the childhood obesity cause, and while you are no doubt thinking How can this get any better?... it can. Thanksgiving-themed costumes are encouraged. Time to bust out that pilgrim hat you have been saving for a special occasion and get ready to trot like it's hot.
The third-annual Fort Lauderdale Turkey Trot & Paddle is Thursday at 7:30 a.m. The race takes place on Fort Lauderdale Beach and begins at DC Alexander Park, located at SE Fifth Street. Registration the day of the event is $50 per person, all ages and all categories. Visit turkeytrotftl.com.
