Finishing School

Those sparkly party platforms you bought over Christmas have been watching you, strappy, lifeless, and unused. You never had the guts or the preparation to wear them. A broken ankle, after all, didn’t sound like much of a party or the kind of holiday injury that results in no regrets. Well, fear the way of the fashionably heeled no longer. Veronica Vera, dean of Miss Vera’s Finishing School for Boys Who Want to Be Girls and every cross-dresser’s best friend, will offer a workshop at the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. All women are encouraged to attend, whether they’re biofemmes, transwomen, or cross-dressers, and to learn the art of walking, sitting, and posing in high heels. The fun continues at 3 p.m., when you will learn how to experiment with your look and transform genders. If you’re not looking for a makeover but just want to know more about the notable figure, Vera will also present “Lessons in Life, Liberty, & Lipstick” on Thursday; the lecture will offer insights into her philosophy and feature stories from former students and tips on how to transform yourself. Thursday’s event costs $35 and starts at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale (1 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale). Saturday's 11 a.m. event costs $25; the later workshop costs $50 for singles, $80 for couples. Call 954-525-5500, or visit moaflnsu.org.
