Get MADD and Drive (Safely)

As drunk driving continues to be an all-too-common occurrence, resulting in a ridiculous amount of pain and suffering - for instance, some stats show that one person every minute is injured in an alcohol-related accident - you can help to remedy the situation simply by walking. In this case, walking home from the bar is not what is being suggested, although that helps too. Rather, you can lend your steps to a big, focused movement to make the streets safer by participating in the Second Annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K at Huizenga Park. Mothers Against Drunk Driving is a decades-old organization set not to hate on drinkers but to do all they can to make sure the boozers don't get behind the wheel, and if they do and they hurt someone, MADD helps in the aftermath. The 5K is the group's "signature fundraiser" and occurs on various dates all across the country. Huizenga Park is located at 32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. The road race begins at 7:30 a.m., with registration preceding it at 6 a.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 7 a.m. After the race, until 11 a.m., there will be festivities including food, music, and a bounce house.
