In an election year -- especially one in which you have nonstop access to everyone's opinions via your Facebook feed -- it's easy to forget that there have been times when we didn't all act like we hated one another's guts. Operation Homefront's Freedom Walk & Run 5K, planned for Sunday in downtown West Palm Beach, asks people to put aside their meme-baiting and status-hating for a few hours to reflect on the lives that were lost on 9/11. Suspend any political bent for a morning and focus on honoring service members and veterans -- organizers make it a point to open the race to any and all folks, regardless of creed or policy. For those who are counting, the race is AccuChip-timed, and medals will be awarded to the top three performers in five age groups. Operation Homefront's Freedom Walk & Run 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Registration starts at 6:30. The cost is $25 to walk or run and $10 for active service members or first responders with ID. Sign up for the race on active.com by searching for the name of the event. The starting point is on the West Palm Beach waterfront at 101 S. Flagler Drive. Call 888-433-7713, or visit operationhomefront.net.
