Get Up; Get Down

Thursday nights are arguably the best time to go downtown. Venues aren't as crazy crowded on Thursdays as they are on weekend nights. And Thursdays mark a preweekend celebration of sorts: You're almost there, with only one day of work left. Better yet, events held like Riverwalk Get Downtown might motivate many to get on out, get on up. For a mere 20 bucks, if you pay in advance, you'll be treated to three hours of playtime, a gluttonous affair featuring an array of bites and libations. A ticket includes two cocktails and tastes from the area's trendy eateries, such as American Social, Chima, Royal Pig (oink, oink), SAIA Sushi, and Brooklyn Italian Ice. Get Downtown, a 15-year running party in Fort Lauderdale, takes place twice a year in YOLO's courtyard. This block party is known to draw ample crowds from the well-heeled to young pros looking to live it up; ya know, as the motto goes: You only live once. The bash is happening from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at YOLO Plaza, 333 E. Las Olas Blvd., in Fort Lauderdale. Get tickets at $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
