The Ghost Light Society. I know what you are thinking, Halloween has already long passed. But this organization has nothing to do with the ghoulish spirits the name implies. It's a group for people who take on the finer things in life with gusto. The Ghost Light Society is a subset of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts that focuses on one specific mission: "to engage and inspire a new generation of patrons to take an active role in supporting, promoting, and celebrating the performing arts." What better way to gather up these keen folk than around a bar? But at their upcoming meet-and-greet mixer, they haven't selected just any old watering hole. This event will take place at the new and already legendary Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park. Opened early this year, the Funky Buddha Brewery is a physical testament to the growth the South Florida beer scene has been privy to in recent years. Tapping up everything from a Maple Bacon Coffee Porter to a standard Hop Gun IPA, it is basically impossible to go wrong when ordering a sweet libation at this esteemed beer-drinking joint. The Ghost Light Society Meet and Greet Mixer is Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Funky Buddha Brewery, located at 1201 NE 38th St. in Oakland Park. There is no cost to attend, with $5 select beer options until 8 p.m. Visit ghostlightsociety.org, or call 954-414-6908.
