Ghostly Gathering

Many a starving artist can attest to this little truth nugget: Art is a struggle. A little support — be it financial or just a shoulder to cry on when you don’t get into that cool new show — can mean the difference between pursuing your passion full-time or joining the 9-to-5 work force and relegating your art back to hobby status. Not wanting to see the performing arts ever fade due to financial inabilities, the Ghost Light Society steps in to provide support, promotion, and celebration of arts through an active base of young professional patrons who can kick a little assistance a promising artist’s way. On Saturday, the Ghost Light Society celebrates its fifth anniversary with a “Diamonds Are Forever: License to Party” 007-themed party in the new Porter Riverview Ballroom at the Huizenga Pavilion (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). The “black-tie optional, bow-tie preferred” event includes cocktails, a silent auction, and light bites. Funds raised will benefit the Broward Center’s arts-in-education programs. Tonight’s soiree will begin at 8. Tickets cost $105 for members and $125 to $150 for nonmembers. Call 954-468-2681, or email [email protected]
