Going Japanese

Everyone loves dressing in costumes. It’s, like, the perfect opportunity to let out your inner freak. Just think of all the grown women dressing as naughty schoolgirls on Halloween. Well, this weekend the costume party is going Japanese at the Morikami Museum’s 34th-annual Hatsume Fair. The festival will feature an anime costume contest along with anime karaoke. Talk about getting the Japanese party started! In addition, there will be multiple stages featuring Japanese cultural performances: taiko drumming, martial arts, etc. For kids, an interactive exhibit tour, “Through the Eyes of a Child,” will explore Japanese culture and its Florida connections. Artisan booths, anime dealers, plant sales, Asian and American food vendors, Kirin Beer station, a sake station, and a bonsai area will all be included. Tickets cost $15 for adults, $10 for kids ages 4 to 10. Tickets purchased online and in advance cost $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 4 to 10. Museum members and children 3 and under get in free. The festival runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the weekend at the Morikami Museum, 4000 Morikami Park Road in Delray Beach. Call 561-495-0233, or visit morikami.org.hatsume.
