Gonzo Journalism Meets Gonzo Performances

Don't be mistaken: GonZo NaTion is not a long-nosed Muppet's American tour (although that would be awesome). This is a Labor Day memorial of sorts, a commemoration of the late Hunter S. Thompson, who popularized the term gonzo journalism. Not sure what that is? Simply read anything he wrote. When finished, you'll realize two things: (1) You have a sudden urge to do mescaline, and (2) Hunter S. Thompson was a mad, mad genius. (Try to ignore the first one.) In dedication to the writing legend, IWAN (Independent Working Artist Network) is hosting a night of frivolity, mayhem, expression, tribute, and live performances. Hear a wide range of music -- from tech house to rock, rap, and new age -- and experience performance art and stand-up comedy. It all begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bubble, located at 810 NE Fourth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Admission is $10, which includes drinks all night. Call 561-674-3611, or visit independentworkingartistnetwork.com.
