Long before Lady Gaga become the gay-club-anthem queen, the world had a different lovely lady who knew how to get asses shaking: Lady Miss Kier. The fire-engine-red-coifed goddess in go-go boots -- most recognizable as the lead singer for Deee-Lite -- hits the stage twice this weekend to help Wilton Manors' fixture Matty's on the Drive celebrate its fourth anniversary. Best-known for the dance hit "Groove Is in the Heart," Kier has remained a fixture on the nightclub circuit, where she and her band still perform the pop classic, among other hits. Her appearances this weekend are part of a sure-to-be-over-the-top birthday celebration for the nightspot that took home the award for Best Gay Bar in New Times' 2012 Best Of issue. Lady Miss Kier will spin from 9 to 11 p.m. Saturday. She and her band will perform a Deee-Lite tribute at 6 p.m. Sunday. Other anniversary weekend activities include a Money Machine filled with more than $1,000 in cash at 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. There is no cover charge for any of the events, all of which will be held at Matty's on the Drive, located at 2426 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors. Call 954-564-1799, or visit mattysonthedrive.com.
