Holiday soirees take their toll. Sure, it's fun to put new twists on tradition, but there are only so many goth Santas, games of Hannukah pong, and New Year's Eve raves you can take before your lifeforce starts to wane. Sure, South Pacific’s a musical, and it's a romance to boot. But it was also ahead of its time, won all 10 Tony Awards for which it was nominated when it premiered in 1949. How could it not, with tunes like "There Is Nothing Like A Dame," "Bloody Mary," and, of course, "Bali Ha'i"?
