Hardcore TKO

Local hardcore and punk promoters On Fire Booking play the musical proxy to Don King this Sunday night with their Headbang for the Highway Battle of the Bands. Nine unsigned bands from coast to coast are vying for the title, hoping to knock out opponents with their uppercut's worth of guitar riffage and feisty snare-drum jabs. On the bill are worthy adversaries such as Central Illinois posthardcore duo Reach for the Sky, Boynton Beach's snarling Nebraska Bricks, West Palm Beach's pouncing metal group Every Passing Dream, and the melodic death metal of And the Kingdom Fell. To the victor goes a coveted opening slot on the local date of the "Summer Slaughter Tour." The winner of the night also moves on to the next round, where it will compete for a record contract on indie hardcore label Sumerian Records. The musical bout begins at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Speakeasy Lounge, located at 129 N. Federal Highway in Lake Worth. Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
