How to Draw

Finally. Some art-related thing for the rest of us, the art-challenged masses. Remember when art was fun and not the equivalent of a stuffy cardigan sweater stuffed down the maw of a geriatric New York Jets' fan? No wait, that could be art too, so never mind... The bottom line is that art used to be fun; it used to be a release for the common man and not the private musings of some elite class. Blick Art Materials is having a grand opening worthy of the circus at its new Fort Lauderdale location, and it has enlisted Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School for a fun sequence of "live drawing." Just to weed out the pervs, supermodels will not be posing, just "real" people, and whatever you commit to paper is worthy of artistic expression. There will be hors d'oeuvres and entertainment, but more important, there will be fun! Vendors like Derwent and Canson will supply registered attendees with equipment, but you are welcome (and encouraged) to bring your own stuff. Sign up for one of the six 30-minute drawing sessions and receive a free goody bag of art. Dr. Sketchy's Life Drawing Mixer, presented by Blick Art Materials, 2354 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale, starts at 4 p.m. Thursday. Space is limited, and an RSVP is required. Sessions cost $2. Call 954-630-1482.
