Ice Skating, Florida Style

Yearning for frozen lakes or the childhood nostalgia of visiting the Rockefeller Center during the holiday season? Well now, there's no reason you can't enjoy one of your favorite holiday pastimes -- even if it isn't the real stuff. Skate Las Olas is bringing this holiday tradition near you with a synthetic 1,800-square-foot "ice"-skating rink on the Great Lawn of the Riverside Hotel. Furthermore, Skate Las Olas is following the appropriate holiday timeline by opening up the rink on the day after Thanksgiving and will continue well after the new year. If you don't break your neck while putting up your Christmas decorations this year or get trampled by the crowds on Black Friday, you can being ice-skating on Friday at the Riverside Hotel, located at 620 E. Las Olas Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. The rink will be open daily, Monday through Friday 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday noon to 9 p.m. through December 20. Hours will change to Monday through Sunday, noon to 9 p.m., from December 21 to January 15. Patrons pay $10, which includes a skate rental, to skate for one hour.
