The Bahamas are the bane of South Florida surfers. The islands cut off incoming swells from the Atlantic, so short of a hurricane, surfers in South Florida are stuck with Typhoon Lagoon. Or they live vicariously through surf flicks like Drive Thru Australia Part 2, an independent surf film being released on DVD worldwide this week and premiering in Fort Lauderdale at The Bubble. The ninth installment of the Drive Thru series with stops in South Africa and Japan, Australia Part 2 features footage shot over two wild weeks of traveling and surfing along the Australia coastline with some of the sport’s biggest names such as Donavon Frankenreiter, Benji Weatherly, Occy (Mark Occhilupo), and three-time world champion Andy Irons. Local surf shop B.C. Surf and Sport is sponsoring the event, which will also include live music by punksters Break On Through and prog/noise act Dooms de Pop.

Pop in to the Bubble around 8 p.m. , located at 810 NE Fourth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The event costs $5. For more information, call 954-562-3804.
