It's Alive!

Even for the true normies out there, the role of today's teenager can be a rough gig. What if you were to add to the average pressures of fitting in: a striking resemblance to a wee Marty Feldman, a wild mane of Gene Wilder proportions, a penchant for devouring Mary Shelley novels and reciting the best parts, and the comedic wit of a young Mel Brooks? Those qualities that will guarantee you outsider status in high school could be the makings of a Broadway star one day, you'll see. Tonight, the Pre-Professional actors of NSB Teen Theatre Project will perform Young Frankenstein the Musical, based on the classic Brooks movie, at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Much as in the 1974 flick, you'll find out what happens when brilliant young Dr. Frankenstein inherits his infamous mad-scientist grandfather's castle and attempts to complete his grandfather's masterpiece by bringing a corpse back from the dead. For the musical portion of the production, you'll hear renditions of songs like "Puttin' On the Ritz" and "Transylvania Mania." Showtimes are 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets cost $18. The Coral Springs Center for the Arts is located at 2855 Coral Springs Drive in Coral Springs. Call 954-344-5990, or visit
