Ladies of Note

It's been one tough year in the pop-legend community, with not one but two, of the industry's finest ladies taking their final bows. In its typically fabulous style, Lips in Oakland Park will pay tribute to dearly departed divas Donna Summer and Whitney Houston on Sunday night in a one-night-only performance that pulls from the ladies' considerable catalogs of hits. Lips' leading "female illusionist" Diva heads a Vegas-style show of female impersonators in full regalia, jamming out to hits like "Last Dance" and "I Will Always Love You." Since this is technically dinner theater, the performance also includes a three-course meal. One other thing: The show benefits Women in Distress of Broward County, so all that high-pitched crooning to "I Want to Dance With Somebody" is for a good cause. The tribute is at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets cost $50 and include a seat for the show, plus a three-course meal and one glass of wine or a frozen cosmo. The VIP package is $75 and includes premium seating for dinner and the show, a raffle ticket, and a champagne reception and cast meet-and-greet. Lips is located at 1421 E. Oakland Park Blvd. in Oakland Park. Call 954-760-9800, ext. 1253, or visit
