And so there will be.
This Friday, the folks at Island Water Sports will take a break from praying for surf to kick off Daytime Radness, a huge fundraiser, sale, and silent auction now in its third year. In between skate contests and autograph signings, IWS will raffle off tons of gear every hour on the hour, including skateboards, surfboards, apparel, and trips.
This year's fundraiser will benefit BSO deputy Ben Koos; his wife, Carolyne; and their family. After the Kooses lost their 2-year-old son to a rare neurological disease, they started a foundation benefiting chronically ill children in Florida hospitals. Now, Carolyne has been diagnosed with a slew of debilitating conditions of her own -- including nerve and autoimmune disorders -- and requires treatment at Minnesota's Mayo Clinic.
Expect throngs of groms, skaters, and their parents to swarm Island Water Sports' Deerfield Beach location -- last year's event drew a crowd of more than 8,000. With a signed waiver and a $5 donation, skaters can shred the parking lot's half-pipe. If skating isn't your thing, show off your Instagram skills of photos at the event and enter to win a new surfboard courtesy of SUPERbrand.
But wait, there's more! Sponsors have amassed tons of even radder gear for a silent auction: front-row tickets to Heat, Dolphins, and Panthers games; signed swag; and new surfboards and paddleboards. A Red Bull DJ truck will bring the jams at 10 a.m.
VIP and Deluxe VIP tickets are available. For $10, VIPs can skip what's expected to be a very long line and receive a 30-minute pass to the Ski Rixen at Quiet Waters Park. For $35, Deluxe VIP tickets also include five raffle tickets, one free IWS board rental, coupons, and more. Doors open at 5 a.m. for all VIP ticket holders -- so you can load up on free waffles and coffee courtesy of Vans before the masses arrive.
Daytime Radness runs from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Island Water Sports, 1985 NE Second St. in Deerfield Beach. VIP and Deluxe VIP tickets cost $10 and $35, respectively. Call 954-427-4929, or visit daytimeradness.com. Keep praying for surf.
