Halloween has passed, which means the holiday season is officially in full swing. It's time to throw out (or compost, please!) those pumpkins and pick up those menorahs and Christmas trees. Sure, Thanksgiving is still a ways away, but these days, it's all about getting into the spirit as soon as humanly possible (i.e., when the temperature drops a couple of degrees). While you're at it, you may want to start burning off those calories. If you're looking to run or walk that extra serving of pie off in advance while taking in the sights and sounds of holiday lights, check out the 18th-annual Fantasy of Lights 5K Run & Walk at Tradewinds Park on Saturday.
With illuminated reindeer, teddy bears, and holiday figures cheering from the sidelines, the 5K is one of the most festive events in town. The U.S. Track & Field-certified course is flat and fast, ideal for all levels of participants aiming to beat their personal best. Awards will be given out in nine categories for both male and female participants. The run incorporates the most advanced timing method in the world, the ChronoTrack Timing System, a chipless component in the number bib. For $45 per runner, $25 per walker, the event includes use of the ChronoTrack, commemorative T-shirt, meal, refreshments, parking, and park admission. Pre-event packet pickup is available on Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at Sports Authority at 3810 W. Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach. Visit holidaylightsdrivethru.com.
