The Petite Opening is the epitome of chi-chi. Its an artsy party happening tonight at a hair salon in West Palm Beach, organized by a trio of eccentric characters: Neil London, an advertising exec and stock-market heavyweight who counts Citibank among his clients and runs a 24-hour Internet news channel; Nico Cassanetti, creator of the reoccurring art series, Art Rx; and above all, David K, an A-list hairstylist from New York City whos also written for Closer Magazine (where he crafted gems like: For once, let us try to think about having dinner without losing ourselves in false sophistication and outmoded perceptions of identity.). Tonight at 7, they'll debut a new loft-like salon, the
David K Space, amid a blitz of multimedia art, live music, and spoken-word.
A hair salon might seem an unlikely place to exhibit art, but David K believes theres an intimate connection between featured artist Heather Tiptons paintings and his haircutting. "I could feel the energy and movement of my haircutting in her work, he says. David has sheared the scalps of Donna Karan and Faye Dunaway and states grandly, New York is wherever I am. The Petite Opening features jazz singer Cat Shell and music mixed by the oddly named Selecteur de Paris.
ArtSalons "The Petite Opening" at the David K Space is located at 2401 N. Dixie Hwy. in West Palm Beach. The opening is free. Call 561-340-6400.
