Little Con

San Diego has Comic-Con; now South Florida has Mini Con. The inaugural Florida Mini Con is more than just a comic-book and anime convention, however; it is a celebration of countless pop-culture art forms. Self-described as “an art-driven cultural experience for the whole family,” the daylong gathering will be featuring not only those rare comic-book finds but also costumes, panels, games, vendors, creative workshops, food, and music. Of course, most Mini Con attendees will be jostling to the booth where Marvel Comics cover artist Jeff Dekal will be dishing out autographs, but there are also a great number of lectures where attendees can learn to be artists themselves. DJ Anim8ed of Non Stop Karaoke will also be there, allowing anyone with an innate desire to belt out Top 40 tunes the platform to do so. This comic-book and pop-cultural fun occurs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quality Inn Sawgrass Conference Center, located at 1711 N. University Drive in Plantation. Admission is $5, with a portion of each ticket sale going to Drops of Hope Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that benefits pediatric cancer patients. Visit, or call 954-556-8200.
