Nothing can fully fund a comedic arsenal like a good disease and/or affliction can. Take, for example, systemic sclerosis, also known as scleroderma, a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that has no cure and no clear indication as to what causes it. People afflicted by it usually have "hardened" skin, and if the condition worsens, it can affect internal organs. Give the idea of someone walking around like an armadillo to any comedian and you're bound to get something good out of it. Or at least you'll get a stunted audience nervously looking around for that awkward en masse approval to laugh. The Southeast Florida Chapter of the Scleroderma Foundation has secured the services of six-time American Comedy Award nominee comedian Dom Irrera for this private event that will benefit the foundation's programs for people living with the condition, their families and caregivers, and the much-needed research groups currently involved in finding a cure for this disease. Laughing Out Loud for Scleroderma with Dom Irrera happens at the Improv at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets cost $100 and may be purchased through the Scleroderma Foundation's website, scleroderma.org. Admission is for those 21 and up and includes dinner and cocktails.
