Chances are, the name Louis C.K. means different things to different people. Some appreciate his standup comedy, a craft he has been honing with observational filth and wicked social commentary since the mid-1980s. For others, their main affection may be for his uncomfortably confessional comedy series -- the underrated HBO show Lucky Louie and his FX hit, Louie. Still others appreciate his hilarious cameos and recurring roles in numerous movies and shows, from Parks and Recreation to The Invention of Lying. But for me, his crowning achievement is writing and directing Pootie Tang -- one of the most critically reviled films of all-time that has become an unexpected cult touchstone 11 years after its release. In hindsight, you knew it was worth seeing back when Roger Ebert called the film "not in releasable condition" in his half-star review. Louie returns to his standup roots with a batch of new material at 7 and 10 p.m. Wednesday at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale.
