Making Strides

What would you do if your doctor diagnosed you with pancreatic cancer and said you had only six months left to live? Perhaps indulge in lavish feasts and wild romps while jetting to exotic cities? Freak out, cry, and live in anguish? If pancreatic cancer has afflicted you or a loved one, there's a way to kick this fatal illness in the butt by supporting this Sunday's third-annual PurpleStride South Florida in Sunrise. This 5K walk and run strives to raise funds for pancreatic cancer research, which is the cancer with the lowest chance of survival. Participants can join this community walk up to the day of the event by registering online or on-site by 7 a.m. Sunday. The walk begins at 9 a.m. and is followed by activities in the PurpleStride Village featuring music, refreshments, and a kid play zone. Meet at BB&T Center, located at 1 Panther Parkway in Sunrise. Registration costs $25 in advance, $30 the day of the event. Call 954-444-8163, or visit purplestride.org/southflorida.
