Our beliefs are different. And the paths we choose are not always the same. Yet we live side by side in one universe. See, through art, how we coexist in "Parallels" at 1310 Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Through this exhibit, presented by Niki Lopez, artists share how they visualize our generation as one that's free to choose its own destination. Visual artists include Lopez, Alexis Menendez, Laurian MacDonald, and Michael Maccarone, among many others. Don't miss opening night with refreshments and performances by Profound Breadth, DJ Onestar, Alana DaCosta, and Vanya Allen. The opening reception is free and open to the public on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. at 1310 Gallery, located at 1310 SW Second Court (Middle St.). Closing reception is Saturday, August 10, from 7 to 11 p.m. RSVP through Eventbrite, Facebook, or Google +. The gallery is open by appointment. Call 305-975-6262, or visit nikiartstudio.com.

Keep New Times Broward-Palm Beach Free... Since we started New Times Broward-Palm Beach, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of South Florida, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering South Florida with no paywalls.
