Me and My 500,000 Friends

Straight out of Springboro, Ohio, via the virtual reality of the internet, Mitchell Davis is a 20-something-year-old kid who’s cornered a certain kind of pseudo-celeb status with the Gen Z set. That’s a convoluted way to say: He’s a YouTube star with almost 72 million video views to his credit.

Basically, he posts clips of Mitchell arguing with Mitchell or Mitchell talking to his audience about buying perfume or Mitchell and friends lip-synching to Top 40 tracks. It’s a haphazard mashup of unfunny comedy shorts, video art, taped confessionals, homemade music videos, and reality TV, all backlogged on his YouTube channel, livelavalive.

And this Sunday at 6 p.m., Mitchell Davis rolls into the Culture Room (3045 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale) for what his P.R. people are calling a night that “bridges online social networking with real social networking.” Translation: an hour and a half of shtick only a friend would want to watch. Luckily, Mitchell’s got a half-million friends. Tickets cost $14.99. Call 954-564-1074, or visit cultureroom.net.
