Midnight Mudness

Night rides and nightgowns

FRI 6/18

Yes, we know we've been writing about Club Mud a lot lately. Well, if any other sports organization held events half as fun as Mud's Feminine Flow Rides, its Ugly Bike Contests, and its PJ party and night ride, we might pay attention to them too. On Friday, mountain bikers will convene at Quiet Waters Park (401 S. Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach) to chow down on dogs and burgers, pitch their tents, and set off on the trails after the sun sets at 8 p.m. Don't worry about the scabs and scars you'll have from stump-jumping in the dark -- you can cover those up with an artful pair of pajamas, which you will don before settling into your primitive campsite. Best Dressed "might just score some crap... err... highly valuable swag," the Mudders say. Bring your bike, your beverage of choice, and $5 to pitch in for food. "Dust off that Heffner robe, grab your SPD-compatible bunny slippers, and spend the night riding, eating, and burning the ever-lov'n hell out of marshmallows with us." You must register first by contacting Harvey -- an attorney by day, mountain biker by night -- whose approach to riding is, "I usually like to start off my rides slow and then taper off from there." He can be reached at [email protected]. No kids allowed. --Deirdra Funcheon

Marathon Golf

... for marathon daylight

MON 6/21

Got anything planned for the longest day of the year? That's right, the summer solstice is upon us, and with the daylight lasting into late hours, this superlong Monday calls for something extreme... like 54 holes of golf. The Doral Golf Resort and Spa (4400 NW 87th Ave., Miami) presents the Summer Solstice Slam on June 21. Why not play three rounds of golf? Definitely a better idea than giving the boss a few extra hours behind the desk. The event begins with a 7 a.m. shotgun start on the Blue Monster. After the first 18, a noon shotgun start over on the red course follows, concluding with the gold course at 5 p.m. The cost is $100 per person. Call 305-591-6499. --Russ Evans
