The gods have been dropping by to interfere in mortals’ lives for centuries. Zeus used his super-power prowess to knock up half of Greece’s mortal women, leaving bastard god/human love children all over the city. Eventually you couldn’t walk down Athens Ave. without tripping over a Heracles or a Perseus. And then there was the time Apollo and Pan were going head to head in a heated lute vs. shepherd’s pipe contest and they made Midas be the judge. He declared Pan the victor. Bummer for Midas, Apollo gave him a new set of donkey ears for his human opinion. Oh, and let’s not even start with Pandora…

Yes, the gods love mischief but maybe it’s time they made amends with us mortals. Maybe this time their visit should be for your amusement, not theirs? Exactly that is happening this Friday when Bear and Bird Gallery (inside Tate’s Comics, 4566 N. University Dr., Lauderhill) unveils its newest art exhibit “Age of Myths.” Nearly 30 artists will display their interpretations of these gods (and the myths that each is affiliated with) – all for your enjoyment. You’ll feel godlike when you buy a painting and take it home. Having wacky Greeks hanging all over the walls is enough to turn any living room into Mount Olympus.
