Not the Bill Murray Version...

Charles Dickens' classic retold today: Ebenezer Scrooge gets away with a golden parachute while his underling clerk Bob Cratchit joins the rest of the 99 percent at an Occupy protest. But it's the holidays, so we'll stick to the uplifting script of people changing for the better. Unless you've been able to avoid the community theater, PBS, and the big-screen remakes that come around this time of year, you know A Christmas Carol. The underlying message has been deeply ingrained in your brain since childhood. Never ever put greed and material goods before people. Or some very scary ghosts representing the past, present, and future will haunt your ass. A Christmas Carol will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Broward Center (201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). Tickets cost $5 to $17.50. For the kiddie shows -- showtimes are 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. -- tickets are at a very cratchityprice of $3 to $6. Call 954-462-0222, or visit browardcenter.org.
