The last weekend of the winter break should be a nice and relaxing affair for families as they ease into 2015 before the school year resumes. Why spend it indoors in front of the boob tube or glued to some inanity on the phone when January in South Florida is a picture-perfect moment to enjoy the outdoors? For the 27th year in a row, a stretch of Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale’s heart and jewel, will become an open-air art fair with more than 150 artists displaying their works. Howard Alan Events has its hand in numerous events like these across the state, but the Las Olas one is one of the longer-running ones, and its informal nature is conducive to commissioning works, meeting and discussing techniques with the artists, and purchasing art at affordable prices. Broken into a two-parter, the Las Olas Art Fair part one will run Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., starting at Las Olas Boulevard and South Federal Highway. (Part two of the art fair is March 28 and 29.) Call 561-746-6615, or visit artfestival.com.
