There was a time when Boynton Beach was considered flyover country, a city that stood between you and somewhere else. In recent years, the town has become a destination for a growing creative class, thanks in no small part to the fledgling Boynton Beach Art District, or BBAD, for the initiated. See what all the fuss is about -- or join in the movement -- at Thursday's Open Mic Night. Local singers, musicians, poets, dancers, and other artists will flaunt their skills and compete for the opportunity to win "Best of Night." Special guests for this month's session include DJ Thought and the Vanya E'dan belly dancers. Open Mic Night takes place from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday at ActivistArtistA, 422 W. Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach. Interested in participating? Signup begins at 7 p.m. There's no cost to attend or participate. Call 786-521-1199, or visit activistartista.blogspot.com.
Third Thursday of every month, 7-10 p.m. Starts: Aug. 16. Continues through Sept. 19, 2012
