Andrea Bocelli is what you call the Michael Jackson of pop opera. Dubbed the King of Popera, he got his start when an Italian rock star put him on a demo tape as a tenor. In the 17 years since, hes sold a considerable number of albums 60 million, in fact and seven of those albums have vaulted to the number one slot on
Billboards U.S. Classical charts. So this guys no ordinary crooner.
Bocelli will be kicking off his American tour at the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy, Fort Lauderdale). Hell sing songs which span his whole career and also selections from his new album, My Christmas. Bocelli puts a big voice and a slight, charming Italian accent to old carols. It could be just the thing to spark your holiday spirit. Show begins at 8 p.m., and tickets start at $77.75. Remember, parking costs $20 (or free if you hike from the Target parking lot.) Call 954-835-7000, or visit bankatlanticcenter.com.
