Over a Barrel

With the price of gas careening over $4 per gallon all across South Florida, everyone is feeling the petrol pinch. A night on the town with friends no longer just includes the cost of the bar tab and the inevitable stop at Taco Bell afterwards. And forget about being the designated driver — now you’ve got to embarrassingly ask your peeps to pitch in on the tank, just like when you were in high school and you borrowed your parents’ car.

Well buck up, kiddo, because the folks at Georgie’s Alibi (2266 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors) feel your pain. They know that this gas crunch is putting a hurtin’ on your drink expenditure, so they’ve decided to offer some relief. All you’ve got to do is come into the Alibi weekdays from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. to take part in their Got Gas Giveaway. Here’s how it works: Show up, you get a ticket (for free!). Buy a drink and you get another ticket (the drinks are 2-4-1, so you score double). Come 8:30, the Alibi will select one ticket from the lot, and one lucky winner will receive a $100 gas card from Shell and a spot in the final raffle for $1000, taking place on September 1. Sound like a pretty good deal? Plus, there’s a different drink special afterwards each night — Mondays are $2.50 Golden Margaritas — so even if you don’t win the money you’re sure to be tanked anyway. Mondays-Fridays. Starts: June 9. Continues through Sept. 1, 2008
