Pour it On

If you have ever tried to paint the walls of your apartment or house a new color, odds are you've poured paint. Maybe just in a pan, but still, you've poured it. Little did you know that the dripped paint you left behind on the floors and furniture was a beautiful abstract picture to many art lovers. Pour painting became popular in the 1950s with American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. And thanks to many up-and-coming artists, abstract painting is back. Don't miss "Pour (Paint): A Symposium," on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Schmitt Gallery at Florida Atlantic University, located at 777 Glades Road in Boca Raton. The symposium will feature participating artists and writers who will discuss "the pour" and other abstract art. While you're there, enjoy a viewing of the 24 paintings in the exhibition "Pour," on display now until March 23. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call 561-297-2661, or visit fau.edu/galleries.
Tuesdays-Fridays, 1-4 p.m.; Saturdays, 1-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 19. Continues through March 23, 2013
