Put the Chick On Ice

Quick, what’s the best way to keep an inanimate body in good condition for 100 years? If you answered that question, seek professional help. But for those of you who aren’t aspiring coroners or mad scientists, here’s what you do: Put it on ice. We all know that the fatal flaw in the classic story, Sleeping Beauty, is that even after 100 years of rest, said Beauty hasn’t aged a bit. By the time Prince Charming comes to save the day, she’s still as gorgeous as the moment her curse began.

Normally we’re asked to suspend our disbelief and assume that Beauty’s curse also had a non-aging clause attached. But St. Petersburg State Ballet on Ice has found a way around this quagmire by performing this time-honored tale atop an enormous sheet of frozen water. Aging problem solved! See their frigid rendition of Sleeping Beauty, running Friday through Sunday at the Crest Theater (Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach). Tickets start at $38.
