Sex, power, and money are key for juicy storytelling. And the story of Queen Victoria has those three things in droves. Victoria became queen at 18, stayed in power for 63 years, oversaw an era of tremendous progress as well as one of the greatest expansions of the British Empire, and was supposedly quite the nympho she had nine kids. The Young Victoria, a film produced by former British royal Sarah Ferguson and Martin Scorsese, follows the young monarch, played by Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) during her early days before she had children and when she and her cousin/husband, Prince Albert, were the steamiest of lovers. But the two didnt just excel in the bedroom; they were also partners when it came to social reform. The Young Victoria should appeal to fans of BBC period pieces, elaborate costuming, and English manners (at least those outside the bedroom). The Young Victoria premieres Friday at Sunrise Cinemas at Gateway. Admission costs $6 to $9. Call 954-763-7994, or visit sunrisecinemas.com.
