Newsflash for all the youngsters out there: Snapchat is not art! OK, we admit it is great. Taking and posting pictures in the vast social media universe has turned into a form of credibility and validation in the current technology-based social landscape. Ever thought that sunset you Instagrammed was frame-worthy? If so, this class might be for you. "Photo Journaling With New Media" is an upcoming two-day workshop led by Amalia Caputo, a devoted local artist determined to change your parents' definition of art. Through the use of web 2.0 juggernauts like Tumblr and Instagram, Caputo will not only show her students how to use these media to produce art but also how to handle the never-ending tug of war between private and public online information. The "Photo Journaling With New Media" workshop runs Thursday and Friday. The workshop is part of a summer series at Girls Club (117 NE Second St., Fort Lauderdale). Cost is $80. Email, or visit
