Rebel Yell

You’re a wild child at heart: You play your rock tunes loud and proud (even if it wakes the neighbors), you drink straight from the milk container with the refrigerator door swung wide, and your love for speed is only matched by your unexplainable desire to buck the system. Well, you’re in luck — you rebel, you — because tonight at 7, Cinema Paradiso (503 NE Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale) is showing the ultimate ode to dissenting youth everywhere: James Dean in Rebel Without a Cause. It’s the story of Jack Stark, a new kid in town who chases trouble and tail like they’re going out of style. The screening will coincide with the 53rd anniversary of the death of good ol’ Jimmy, and to celebrate his legacy, Paradiso is blocking off a portion of Sixth street for a bitchin’ American Classic Car Show. Over 40 vintage cars will be on display, including a handful of late 1940s to ’50s Mercury Coupes; the very same ride Dean recklessly drives in the film. The car show gets underway at 5 p.m., and is free. The movie will run you $9, and there’ll be beers and grilled burgers/dogs for sale, too. Call 954-525-3456.
