Gators and 'Noles tangle in Tally

SAT 11/20

So the Florida State Seminoles have the Miami Hurricanes and other various ACC foes, and the Florida Gators count the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers among their biggest SEC rivals, but there's no bigger adversary for either school than each other. The Florida-Florida State game is the jewel of each team's schedule every season, and winning the yearly rivalry means everything to the athletes, students, alumni, and fans. This year's contest is set for Saturday in Tallahassee, with a 7:45 p.m. kickoff at Doak Campbell Stadium. More than 90,000 rabid pigskin fans, dressed on one side in garnet and gold, on the other in blue and orange, will descend on the state's capital for the autumn evening affair. So if attending the game is out of the question, a TV viewing is in order. And what better place than at a bar full of fervent fans of each team? For all you Gator fans, the place to be is at Bru's Room (235 Federal Hwy., Pompano Beach), the official sports bar for every Broward County Gator Club watch party. Call 954-785-2227. For Seminoles fans, Bonefish Mac's (2002 E. Sample Rd., Lighthouse Point) is calling all in 'Nole Nation to assemble. Call 954-781-6227. -- Russ Evans

Water-skiing in Mills Pond

FRI 11/19

Since the advent of ESPN's X Games some ten years ago, sports like skateboarding, BMX, and motocross have become semi-mainstream endeavors. One of the sports that has enjoyed heightened awareness is water-skiing, and its most comprehensive worldwide competition is coming to South Florida. The 2004 U.S. Open Water Ski Championships, presented by Chevy Trucks and Mastercraft, will take place Friday, November 19, through Sunday, November 21, at Mills Pond Park (2201 NW Ninth Ave., Fort Lauderdale). The 18th annual event is the largest cash-prize water-skiing tournament in the world, attracting top talent from more than a dozen countries. Skiers compete in slalom, tricks, and jumping events, and select participants compete in all three for the overall U.S. Open crown. Spectators get in free. Call 954-828-5977. -- Russ Evans

Riverfront Racers

Start your engines early

THU 11/18

This year's annual Ford Championship Weekend may take place in Miami, but all the kickoff fun is going down Thursday at the Third Annual Ford RaceFest at Las Olas Riverfront (300 SW First Ave., Fort Lauderdale). But if you think it's a bunch of mustachioed guys polishing their cars, you're way off, pal; try live music, comedy, VIP parties, souvenirs, and a chance to meet some of your favorite NASCAR racers like Kurt Busch and Dale Jarrett. Oh, and don't be shy; you can get your picture taken with the inaugural NASCAR NEXTEL Cup trophy. So comb that 'stache and come on down! RaceFest runs from noon to 11 p.m. Call 305-230-RACE, or visit www.homesteadmiamispeedway.com. -- Jason Budjinski

Chicks Dig the Golf Ball

THU 11/18

If this year's ADT Championship at Trump International Golf Club (3505 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach) is anything like the 2003 edition, you're in for a treat. Last year, Meg Mallon shot a 67 to defeat bergolfer Annika Sorenstam. The event assembles the LPGA's top 30 money winners of the season, wrestling for a $1 million purse. Tickets cost $15. Call 561-656-4400. -- Russ Evans
