Vodka may be the spirit of choice for most South Floridians. Paired with Red Bull, it's like the legal crack of most clubs. It's time to expand the palate, people. There is an entire world of alcoholic beverages calling out from afar: Explore. From herbal gin to smoky Scotch to diverse whiskey to refreshing (and biting) tequila, there's a whole range of booze for even the most philistine drinker. But when it comes to sweet liquids, nothing compares to rum -- and hey, the sugar can help keep you energized at night. In a celebration of all things rum, Stache 1920's Drinking Den is hosting a Summer of Rum Series throughout the season. On Wednesday, it's highlighting Brugal Rums. Stache's head mixologist, Brian Sassen, is taking over the bar from 6 to 8 p.m., with demos of artisanal cocktails featuring the Dominican rum. Operating since 1888, the distillery is hailed as one of the best in the Caribbean. It uses a special method of distillation to remove impurities commonly found in other brands, and it ages all of its products in casks with the same attention to detail found in some of the world's best single-malt Scotches. Stache 1920's Drinking Den is located at 109 SW Second Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-449-1044, or visit stacheftl.com.
