Tigers are pretty badass. And no, we’re not referring to your skintight tiger-print pants. We’re talking about the animal, and unfortunately, they’re kind of on the way out. Malayan Tigers are down to fewer than 300 in the world — in case you’re wondering, that’s, like, the population of one downtown apartment building. Not cool. On the bright side, the Palm Beach Zoo has four — of the 300 — as part of its Malayan Tiger Species Survival Plan, which works with other accredited zoos around the world to manage the population, protect habit, and stop poaching. And the zoo is trying to raise funds by getting your lazy ass off the couch. The zoo is hosting a “Save the Tiger 5K” this Saturday at 7:30 a.m. to celebrate three of its tiger cubs’ second birthdays. Donations and registration fees will be used to expand the zoo’s breeding program and exhibit area. The run takes place at the zoo. The registration fee is $25.
