Saint Patricks Day is one of those blessed holidays, like birthdays. If it falls on a workday, you get to celebrate it not once but twice. Well, its on a Wednesday this year, so save the nightlife drinking debauchery for then. Make Saturday for the festivals, for the family, for the Irish food.
At Huizenga Plaza and along Riverwalk to Riverfront, Fort Lauderdale Saint Patricks Day Parade and Festival will offer too many eclectic opportunities to pass up. There will be sheep herding, hurling, and currach racing (currachs are Irish boats). And theres more: Downtown Fort Lauderdale will be filled with classic automobiles, drum bands, and street performers. The festival is from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the parade is from 2 to 3 p.m. Find Huizenga Plaza at Andrews Avenue and Las Olas Boulevard. Call 954-828-5985, or visit ftlaudirishfest.com. Best news yet: The parade is free for spectators.
